I am looking to buy a float rating and some float hours somewhere.

I found Kenmore aviation in Seattle very good 5hrs including a flight check and lots of interesting water from lake to sea to river.

I did mine some years ago at Jack Brown's in Florida.

It was a simple J-3 cub on wellies; comparatively not cheap even then, but worth every penny. They still advertise in the UK mags.

Wherever you do it, you'll enjoy it; even if you never use the rating again, the cost is justified by the enormous entertainment value, and the different perspective you'll get on wind and aircraft performance.

While there are obviously bigger and more extensive set-ups in the USA and Canada, I would heartily suggest trying any of the UK operations - a lot quicker and cheaper to get to as well... and just think of your carbon-offset :E - means you can fly an extra few hours yourself and not feel guilty :ok:

I havent heard anything bad about it and the prices dont seem too severe, plus the setting is spectacutar.

P.S. I think I rembember reading in Pilot a few months ago that one or both of the 172's, and maybe the Maule, were wrecked or damaged from dodgey landings. Check it out...

Seamanship Exam
 

I've also been thinking about this but need to do my seamanship exam. Any ideas where it's possible to do this in SE England?

G-DRAM is currently in bits having been badly damaged during the high winds over New Year. A real shame as it had just been rebuilt.

I'd probably use Neil Gregory, he knows his stuff and is a very nice chap to boot. His a/c is lovely.
