Aircraft down, Goodwood? UPDATED
Just got a phone call asking if I know what is happening. Details are an aircraft upside down near a railway line in a field. Anyone know what is going on?
|
BRL,
Only brief details at the moment. Fixed wing upside down in a field - No idea of type. MayDay call responded to by a heli operated by LHC at Redhill, under the command of Dom Underdown. Dom and stude had been on a X-country Nav Ex. Lady pilot removed from inverted aircraft. Don't think injuries, if any, are serious. No idea of cause. IMHO An excellent effort by one of the areas best (given his experience) rotary Instructors.:ok: |
Thanks for the info mate. Well done Dom and I am glad to read the lady got out ok. :ok:
|
Not a lot of info, but according to this she made it out.
|
is that a Pitts that crashed?

A little more information here, as Dom smiles for the cameras. :D
http://www.theargus.co.uk/search/dis...ash_rescue.php Ugly old bugger :E Well done mate |
(story on Rotorheads about this)
Well done to Dom. It would be interesting to see what the rescued woman thinks of the Chief Pilot who reprimanded Dom for responding to a Mayday call.
Bloke sounds like a complete ar**hole to me. Once again it shows that unfortunately the helicopter industry, although having plenty of really good people in it, also has the few who really do try to bring it down to it's lowest level. Just glad the place in question has been named already. It would be interesting to see what the company owners view is on this matter. Being charged for repositioning and considered an AOC flight, and they want Dom to pay?  |
Amazing sequel to this story -LINK

I have discussed this matter with the Head of Aviation Regulation Enforcement at the CAA.
ARE is the department which investigates alleged breaches of aviation regulations. I am pleased to post (with his consent) that, if the facts are as reported on PPRuNe (see link), he will not seek to prosecute the helicopter pilot who went to the assistance of the fixed-wing pilot in distress and thereafter assisted the emergency services. Thank goodness that sanity ruled for a change, well done that man!
