PPL validation

Been searching the whole CAA site and still couldn't find the answer!

anyway, question is, i know that the PPL is valid for 2 years but what makes myself current.

i know that i need 12 hours in the 2 years but do i need 1 hr every 90 days?

Jar Ppl

A JAR-PPL is valid for 24 months. Type ratings are valid for 12 months. A JAR-PPL license may be renewed within 60 days of the expiry date. You must hold a currennt Medical Cert. A JAR-PPL must be re-issued every 5 years (not revalidation).

I'm interested in this, but my understanding about currency is that it is often club or group based, some want less than 28 days between flights, other 90 days.
If you dont meet this ,you need a check flight with an instructor or group member
From the official point,I think you need 12 hours in second year and think there is also some official requirement of currency before taking passengers.
This is all off the top of my head so stand to be corrected.:)

Try downloading LASORS (which is free!)

A PPL(A) is issued for 5 years. Ratings contained in it have various revalidation requirements. The SEP Class Rating has a 2 year validity period; to revalidate it 'by experience' you need 12 hours (6 as PIC) in the last 12 months of the validity period - and 1 of those hours must be a training flight with an authorised instructor. Or you can choose to revalidate 'by test' by flying a Revalidation Licence Proficiency Check with an Examiner in the last 3 months of the Rating validity period.

The 12 hours has to achieved in the second 12 month period, not over 2 years.

You have to have flown 3 take-offs and landings in the 90 days before the date of your intended flight if you wish to carry passengers. One of those must have been by night if you want to carry passengers at night (assuming, of course, that you have a night qualification). There is no recency rule as regards flight without passengers; clubs offering aircraft for hire may well have their own local requirements, however.

Thank you, BEagle, This has been really useful.

ok, almost everything are understood.

regards to the 12 hours minimum. does that mean the hours that i do within the first 12 months of my license wouldn't actually count towards my currency?

foxmoth 15th October 2006 22:02

Correct, you can not fly at all during the 12 months after validation or you can fly hundreds of hours and it will not make one jot of difference, what counts is that you fly the 12 hours including one hour with an instructor in the 12 months prior to expiration.:hmm:
n.b. must include 6 hrs P1:ok:

And in the 12 hours, 12 takeoffs and landings .
(not that you wouldn't!)

in my honest opinion, now that i understand the rule, i think its rather stupid!

surely the period should be smaller, i say about 6 months (to allow for winter months)

i think that flying alot in the first 12 months and not flying in the second 12 months = not flying in the first 12 months and flying alot in the seond 12 months. either way there is a 1 year inactivity.

i would think however that pilot should fly about 1 hour every 2 months, just to keep evrything fresh in the mind.

point is, the rule is stupid and the period should be made shorter
