Was this GAR really required?
I notice that a jellyhopper contacted Sheffield and asked to land at 7 am as he was very low on fuel, landed at 0655. Although he had made contact and advised low on fuel he was reported to the CAA for landing before 0730, the official opening hours of the airfield.
It's not the fact that the manager had a word with him after he landed but isn't this a bit much to send a GAR to the CAA? |
Is this SOP if you land out of hours somewhere ?
FF :ok: |
According to the AIP, Sheffield opens at 0730 UTC not 7.30 am. It also says PPR by radio not available, so perhaps that's why he was reported.
Maybe if they get the Casino instead of 2-Jags favoured venue, they'll open a bit longer. |
Is it against air law to land on a runway at an airfield that is not officially 'open' and therefore unlicenced?
Loads of aircraft land on unlicenced airstrips. As far as PPR is concerned the airport confirmed that he had made contact and requested a landing, he also told them that he was short on fuel! Wonder if they charged him landing fees? G-BYZD |
What is a GAR in this context? Or do you mean a MOR?
I would expect that a fuel emergency at any time of day would require some paperwork. Sheffield have to be very careful with their PPR (fax required for the first visit, not telephone or RT) due to their location so close to the city. |
