Medical question
Hi, I'm a relatively new PPL (A) and had a question on Medical Certificates.
Initially I got the class 1, (to see if I was fit enough to do ATPL should I decide to), but now I'm going to let it lapse into a class 2 and stay PPL. As I understand it the expired class 1 will be valid with class 2 privileges until 2010, but do I need to physically exchange the expired class 1 certificate for a "live" class 2? Or do I just keep the expired class 1 in my licence folder? Many thanks. |
I would suggest that you need do nothing until your Class 1 expires. You then need to do another medical at which stage you tell your MO that you only need PPL privileges and you do the relevant test.

You just keep the "expired" Class 1 in your wallet.
If you look at it there is a line that says something to the effect that it is good for Class 2 validity periods. OC619 P.S. Make sure that, if you leave it 5 years, it is still a simple renewal with an AME - not another initial at Gatwick. |
if i remember correctly, it does mention the class two validity on the class one certificate - ie you dont have to do anything to use it as a class two medical.
Just make sure you know the correct period of validity for your age group. |
