I can only laugh because I've done it!

All MOD airfields have signed up to the Strasser scheme i.e. free diversions if genuine, so that will be why they were happy for your last-minute diversion. In my experience the actual people are fantastic - the system sucks, but if you can get round it then the treatment is first class.
