Can multi enginetime count for single time.

Hi everyone,

Got a quick question. If you have done over the last 12 months a couple of hundred hours on a piston twins do you still need to fly 12 hours on a single piston to keep your (JAA) single engine rating valid or can the multi engine hours cover this. If anyone knows the answer it would be much apprecitated.

Best regards,

No, you still need 12 hours in a single.

However, your multi renewal test (remember that you need a test every year to keep your multi current) can count as your hour with an instructor for renewing the single (even if it was less than an hour).

Wot FFF says.

Definitive Chapter and Verse here.
These are the Regulations. There have been some attempts to "interpret" them in the past.

(ii) within the 12 months preceding the expiry of the rating complete 12 hours flight time in a single engine piston aeroplane or touring motor glider including:
(A) 6 hours of pilot-incommand time;
(B) 12 take-offs and 12 landings; and
(C) a training flight of at least one hour’s duration with a FI(A) or CRI(A). This flight may be replaced by any other proficiency check or skill test .

Thanks for the replies. I see what you mean about interpeting but nothing seems simple or clear in aviation air and probaly never will.

SEPL Revalidation

You can if you wish undertake a Revalidation Test or Renewal Test (both the same), the Renewal being a change of word if your SEPL has expired, for your SEPL without achieving the the requirements as outlined by Mike Cross. You will of course incur a test fee.
