Price of avgas???
 

Hello people

Is there anywhere on the net where it is possible to find a continously updated pricelist of avgas??? Im doing this for a project and would like to know how much the oil companies charge the airlines.....

sorry, im not in the know when it comes to the correct terms, i was just wondering how much they charge per ton of fuel etc..

58p-68p per Kg depending on the deal.

I go to Humberside quite a lot and have done for a few years now. I can't recall it ever being that high.

Try £1.32/litre at Cumbernauld.....:{

Avgas (For piston aircraft) Varies from £1.15 - £1.50 per litre. depending mainly on location but also on the deal you have with the supplier based on frequency and quantity of purchases. (inc VAT)

Like wise for Jet A1 (For jet/turboprop/and diesel piston aircraft) prices vary dependant on loaction, purchase quantities and frequency. Typically £0.35 to £0.50 per litre. (no VAT on Jet fuel). You get a good deal if you operate a 747 transatlantic and buy 130 tonnes a time (150,000 litres ish)

Jet A-1 (I'm assuming this is the fuel you're referring to) is generally priced at a surplus or discount* to a continuously updated market price marker known as Platts. Platts prices are only availabe to subscribers, and subscription is fairly expensive.

*The size of the surplus or discount is negotiated between the airline/fuel supplier.

To give you a guide, here are some recent northwest Europe prices (US dollars/metric ton)

As you can see, the price can swing quite considerably. However airlines can guard against this (to some extent) by a financial process known as "hedging".

I would take an educated guess that the price of Avgas to the UK airfields is in the order of 90P/ltr inc VAT.

I would be interested to know the price charged at Sandtoft as they have always had the cheapest Avgas on the east coast.

The scumbags put it up from £1.10 overnight a while back!:confused:

Don't know about discount prices for bulk airline purchases. Price at my home field was $3.20/gal for 100LL last I checked.

in the UK there is VAT on Avtur
rates are at 5% if you lift 2300 litres or less
15% if you lift more than 2300 litres

what there is none of on Avtur (but plenty on Avgas) is excise duty......

I wonder if it would be any cheaper for the guys on the farm strips to get a bowser and buy fuel in 1000Ltr batches?

The reason that I ask this is that I saw an advert for a small road leagal bowser that I could tow behind my car on a flying club wall the other day.

Does anybody know how much tax there actually is on AVGAS?

It would help set the issue in context.

I looked into this about a year ago and there is a catch 22. The price comes down significantly if you buy 5000+liters. Below that you save maybe 5-10p/liter For 5000 liters the saving is ~15p/litre.
There are regulations about how much you can tow on the road. I think the limit is about 600 litres. To tow more than that you need to go on a special course and get a certificate.
So the only way to save money is to have a large static tanker and get the fuel company to come to you. This works as long as you use enough to keep it fresh and you have security etc.
Let me know if you find out anything different.

On AVGAS, duty is presently 28.1p/litre, which is at least a bit better that road petrol and diesel at 47.1p/litre :(

VAT at 17.5% is calculated on the total sale price, including that duty - so it is tax on tax!
