Blackpool to Paris
 

I am intending to fly to Paris in April to do some sightseeing. Which is the best airfield to go into. I dont mind a higher landing fee for being much closer so long as it isnt too expensive.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Pontoise is VERY good.

Lognes - closer than the rest, hard runway, good train service direct to Guard Nord - havent been there for a while but I guess little has changed. Theres a sort leg under the CDG CTZ not above 1,000 feet.

Which one is nearer for Paris or at least easier to get transport into the city?

Both Toussus and Pontoise are pretty good -- taxi to the RER then a train into the city in each case. When I last visited, we stayed at the excellent-value Ibis in Versailles very close to the RER -- which is about 25 mins from the centre of Paris.

Check for Customs availability. I know Pontoise and Toussus have customs but some of the smaller fields may not.

Lognes were certainly able to arrnage customs 24 hour notice and have Avgas. I am never sure why it is not more popular as it is really simple to get into the centre from there, was well run and friendly. It might be worth a look.

Thanks for all these suggestions. I will consider them. I have only ever done the obilgatory Le Touquet trip apart from flying the plane back from Berlin. Has anyone got any other tips that may be useful for this trip.

Right my hotel is booked for 21-23 April so I am starting to prepare my trip. I still cant decide which airfield to go into. They all look good. Lognes is looking perhaps favourite as it seems nearest but I am not adverse to any of the others.

Does anyone know landing fees etc to see if that can help me decide or perhaps distances to train stations etc.

Also which one is easiest to get to out of the above suggestions in respect of airspace and restricted areas.

A few tips on Lognes. I have been to all and this was my personal favourite - I never understand why it is not more popular. Reasons - closest to Paris in terms of very good train service close to the field, hotel on field in case you get stuck with the weather as well as somewhere good to eat. Last time I was there the day of departure produced solid rain all day, a base never 600 feet and some pretty lively CB activity. Even IFR not a day for flying. One of my friends went back BA - the worst flight they had ever had, so it was a good decision. The next day was a bit better but we were grateful for the approach in Blitey. Hope you have better luck. Happy memories as we went to the Eiffel Tower and were in solid cloud at the top of the first lift! Low level IMC.

The station is best considered a very short taxi ride. About 10 minutes I seem to remember. If push really comes to shove you could walk it.

Forget a taxi on Sunday. We found it impossible.

Trains run direct to Guard Nord and are very regular.

Fuel was only available cash or fuel card - no credit cards!

There is a very very cheap hotel on the field but clean and a very good restaurant.

Watch the class A airspace in bound all below a 1,000 feet around C de G.

Thanks for the info. We sat down the other night and decided on Pontoise because of its ease of access from the north. Now I am not so sure as I was also thinking of Lognes.

I hope we dont get stuck there otherwise Granny will be thoroughly tired of our kids after any longer :)

It is simple:

landfall at Calais from LYD, BSN, CLM, LFPL - keeps you well clear of C d G and all very painless. You should aslo get a mil radar service from Tille I think it is if you want it.

A lot closer and cheaper than Pointoise.

PS not above 1,500 feet I think from BSN which is fine.

PPS give Lognes a call and they will arrange customs I think 24 hours notice or of course clear at L2K but dont forget you now need to email details as per NOTAM.

Oh right I will get my maps out again tonight then. I like cheap!
