Idly browsing through Ebay before settling down to eat too much, I came upon this.

So what is it? Where's the catch? Who is this guy? Is he trying to get more hours on his aircraft, or what? And is it legal?

Sounds similar to the scam where you advertise for people to make easy money and ask for £1, having sent your quid, you get a reply saying "place an advert charging £1 for info on how to make easy money" and so it goes on.
In the case of flying though, I cannot imagine such a scam being sustainable but I can imagine just getting a piece of paper that tells you to get your commercial licence then you wont have to pay to fly.

It must be another scam - Ebay have removed it.

Probably said something like: "Steal an aircraft. That'll be £1 please!"

But then, I'm apparently just the resident cynic....... ;)

It seems ppruneing today isn't quite as sad as I thought - such illustrious company! I couldn't get any of the links to work so will continue to fly the expensive way, hoping the rest of you will follow up in due course... :confused:

Happy Christmas all. (It's happy here -I'm galumphing about, having had my fix today: a glorious sky, a rainbow ending just offshore and the wind straight down the strip. (I won't mention 'CC's flat battery to save her blushes). Not exactly free flying, but it could as well have been).

Another possibility to that already mentioned (would a parachute drop pilot not need more than 100hrs?????) is that somebody who cannot fly any longer for medical reasons is looking for somebody to be PIC. That's what I would do if I had my medical pulled. I would still do the same trips etc but would need to find somebody who could be legally PIC.

The ANO "aerial work" wording requires the flight to be pursuant to an agreement, and for the reward to be of more than nominal nature. This wouldn't present a problem. Given a nice plane and nice locations, it would be very easy to find people who would do a "job" like that. But admittedly then the PPL wouldn't need to have any min hours - unless the "recruiter" really cannot fly the plane anymore.

Yup, that way worked, second time. Thanks. It does look rather like glider tugging or parachute scattering, but it seems a bit desperate to advetise there, rather than in more conventional markets. Were I bothered enough, I would try matching up the known sources to the information shown.

On reading it more carefully, I agree - I think what you'll get is emailed instructions on how to do glider towing etc. I suppose it's a good little scam, if anyone's daft enough to bid. Two bids so far...maybe I'll watch it and see what happens....

There is a lot of scams on Ebay, selling e.g. laptops for £5, and in fact what is on sale is just a book about the laptop. Mind you, if you are to get into Ebay scams you could go on for ages....

Not a very scary scam if he's only going to make £1.20. How much could he possibly expect to make?

It would seem that the idea is for you to fly skydivers etc and as a result not to have to pay the costs of the flight yourself. Yet while he says this is within the rules, I don't think it is as far as the ANO reads. It says something along the lines of a pilot who does not hold a commercial rating has to pair his "share" of a flights costs. Ie: five People including the pilot will split the costs five ways. The crucial thing is that the pilot has to pay his share. It is illegal if he does not as far as I understand it.

I may be wrong and usually am so someone who is more familiar with such matters would need to comment on what I've said.

I was under the impression that a PPL can fly skdivers as long as he does not receive payment.
