Google maps on 'fly.dsc.net'
fly.dsc.net now links to Google's interactive maps. For an example, see:
Southampton Be sure to flick to Satellite view and scroll around to see it at its best. It seems to work in the UK, US, Canada, France and probably some other places too. To check out a particular place simple search for the waypoint and click the "Interactive Map" link. |
It just keeps getting better & better :ok:

Maybe I'm just not using it right, but the maps don't seem as good as the multimap maps.

Check out Bournemouth Airport. Photographed at a much higher resolution - can easily see an aircraft parked on the northern end of taxiway R!
|
Some areas are better than others, for some reason airports seem to come out better than individual properties.

Try this for a laugh...
Hi All,
Ok not quite the UK [Switzerland] I know but try zooming in on most of the airfields and you'll see the a/c parked or taxiing - using satellite photography as the base for the map... http://www.map.search.ch/ Enjoy! EG:ok: |
Google maps are very moreish aren't they, says Mr Nomates at 10 minutes to midnight on a Friday. Interesting to see that they've pixelated the Capitol in Washington DC , but not the White House or the Pentagon. The quality is good, but not that good!

Very good site for doing your planning too !! WOW!

Strange that the maps seem quite old even though they are only putting them on google now - at King's Cross, the new St Pancras additions do not appear, indicating that it must be at leasr 2 years old.
Strange resolution over London as well - the satellite photo appears to be quite oblique from well to the North rather than overhead - something not seen on the US ones much. I imagine that getting an overhead of every point would be a massive achievement however, so it's not surprising. I know what you mean about them being addictive! |
