Charge for conversion UK to JAA PPL?

Anyone know what this is? I can't find it in the scheme of charges on the CAA website and can't face hanging on the phone to them for half an hour.

I am presuming and hoping it is the £59 for renewal and not the £142 for granting of a PPL.

Anyone done this recently?

Why would you want to convert a lifelong licence into one that you have to pay to renew every five years?

So I can hire aircraft in other JAR countries, Switzerland in particular, with zero hassle.

Correct me if I am wrong, but as I understand it, if you apply for a JAA-PPL that does not mean that you lose your old CAA-PPL. You just hold both licences.

But having said that, as your old CAA-PPL is a recognised ICAO licence, it should enable you to hire in most countries.

But, don't let me stop you donating more money to the CAA!

D_B - still determindly clinging on to her old CAA-PPL ;)

In Switzerland I have been told "Kein Problem!" with a JAR licence.

"Unmoeglich!" without a JAR licence.

Anyone know what the real story is on this?
