Another St Ivian 10th September 2004 08:00

Started flying regularly at 16. First solo at 16, PPL 17, currently 18 (although 19 tomorrow).

My trusty steed is some 8 years older than me.

Pink_aviator 10th September 2004 09:06

Well . let me see.

Old enough to be a Seanmhair,
Young enough to throw a wobbler ,when things don't go right ,

But still enough sense to fly an aeroplane .

THE PINKSTER

Algirdas 10th September 2004 09:24

37 years older than my Mark 1 Thruster TST.
I look like Santa .......

THE FOUR STAGES OF LIFE:

1) You believe in Santa Claus.
2) You don't believe in Santa Claus.
3) You are Santa Claus.
4) You look like Santa Claus.

Mariner9 10th September 2004 10:30

Well I've got the record (so far) for years older than my aircraft - 43. (Aircraft is 0 - still being built)

Hampshire Hog 10th September 2004 10:36

36 with 1 wife, 1 son and, sadly, only limited funds (and time) for flying! Ah, these young people have it easy!

shortstripper 10th September 2004 10:45

39 ... 1 wife (bugger! are more an option?) 5 kids and even less money and time for flying. :ugh:

Homebuilt aeroplanes are my saviour ... and farm strips :ok:

As old as I feel.

Or perhaps as someone else I might manage to feel.....:E

On the local TV last night there was a piece about an 81-year old pilot about to set off in a replica SE5A to St Omer. Now THAT puts any of us to shame!

And I'm very slightly older than the lovely Pinkster !!

VP959 10th September 2004 18:17

The cracker about the bit on TV re: the 81 year old flying his SE5A from Popham to St Omer was the final shot of his wife, vainly trying to get into their car and realising the old b*gg*r had taken the keys with him. A classic................

I loved his comment about making sure he had the support of She Who Must Be Obeyed as well, I wonder how many of us suffer slight hostility from that direction from time to time?

shortstripper 10th September 2004 18:34

"I wonder how many of us suffer slight hostility from that direction from time to time?"

hmmmm ... to true, :\ I take back my comment about the option of more wives :uhoh:

vainly trying to get into their car and realising the old b*gg*r had taken the keys with him.
Happened to two of my friends at Bristol - as they ascended P2 says to P1 "Have you got the spare set of keys?"
"Yes" says P1, "I left the master set in the ignition in the retrieve".
"Bugger", says P2, "I put them in my pocket to keep them safe...."

Retrieve driver below is going frantic, thinking that she's lost them!

Checklists - don't you just love them? :{

BeauMan 10th September 2004 22:49

Cusco 10th September 2004 23:05

How Old.

Well ;

I was a war baby:

Work that out.

My little piece in Flyer Mag (Sept) gives a few clues.

Cheers

Keef 10th September 2004 23:38

... and I'm older than Cusco.

I'm two years older than my wife. When she was born, Japan immediately surrendered.

And I've loved every bit of it!

Hey Andyb - I went back to Uni at age 53. Life is for living!

Deano777 10th September 2004 23:52

ACW 335 11th September 2004 07:18

Uni....

Omcaree...join the club!

omcaree 11th September 2004 17:54

slightly off topic i know, but are there any loughborough students on here? thats where i'm off to at the end of this month.
they have a flying club there, which is handy, but still i think i'll be taking up gliding (cheaper without the engine)

Charlie Zulu 12th September 2004 09:11

Only two and a half years until I'm celebrating my thirtieth birthday. Or should that be drowning my sorrows?

Ten years ago I thought by now I'd be working behing a desk, maybe own a house, car and be seeing a nice girl, whilst staring with glazed eyes up at the skies loning to be one you aviators.

In reality I am indeed working behind a desk, have my own car, but I don't own my own house yet due to this flying lark! Six hundred hours and a variety of different licences and certificates haven't really left me any spare cash over for the mortgage... oh and no girlfriend either.

I really should get my priorities right one day.

Best wishes,

Charlie Zulu.

ACW 335 12th September 2004 09:21

Omcare...How about joining EMUAS - the UAS which serves loughborough uni
It's not compulsory to join the RAF afterwards.

Tiger_ Moth 12th September 2004 11:28

I'm 20 so I'm less than a third the age of my trusty steed.

ACW, you don't work in Hounslow do you?

Omcaree, I agree, join the UAS if you can, I would have if they weren't such a bunch of eyesight fascists......

omcaree 12th September 2004 13:50

I was considering the UAS, but i used to be in the air cadets and got sick of the RAF side of it.
obviously UAS is more flying based, but still seems a bit too much like the RAF for me.
I'll probably still give it a go, but if anything i'll fail on medical grounds, was surprised enough when i got a class 2 with no problems.

ACW 335 13th September 2004 18:29

Tiger_Moth...

Where's Hounslow?!
PM me LOL do you know me?

Air Cadets is very different to the RAF Omcaree.

FlyFreeWbe 13th September 2004 21:46

omacree check your PM's

as for the actual age thing.. :p
