Sherburn to ?????

hey
i am planning a trip on 3rd april (sat) with me dad.
I fly the warrior out of sherburn and have booked a four hour slot.
Im looking for any suggestions for ideas to land away, where to go.
I dont want to fly too far because im not that experienced, i just want somewhere to go with a good bit of lunch in the club and stuff to see, and not ridiculous landing fees.

Cheers guys, hope to hear from you.

Ol.

Leicester would be a fairly quick run where you could get a bite to eat.

If you're feeling a little adventurous and the weather's good how about Sleap, routeing via the TNT VOR. Might be interesting and show your dad how you can get from one side of the country to almost the other in an hour and a bit.

How about Sandtoft or even Blackpool?

Caernarfons a good one which doesn't test the nav too much in good vis, outbound just head west and aim for the coast then on the return leave the coast head East and aim for the hills :D with approx an hour on the ground for pilot refuel & a quick look around the museum !

Hi Oli

I fly out of Sherburn myself and would suggest any of the following :

Welshpool
Leicester
Fenland
Nottingham (Tollerton not NEMA)
Blackpool (nice to fly to but as it's a commercial airport the food is just from a cafe in the terminal)
Skegness (no food though)

All these are within easy reach to fill 4 hours but aren't too far away or too difficult to get to.

thanks for all your replies guys, somewhere like fenland or leicster sounds a good idea, not too far and not too hard to find, cheers

I've not flown to Fenland, but routed directly overhead a couple of times. On the way out I saw Fenland right where I expected it to be, but on the way back I couldn't spot the airfield at all, even though I knew I was almost overhead. I'm told it can be a difficult place to find - green runways in a sea of green fields.

Big al

You are right, it's not the easiest to spot on certain days as it blends in well with the fields. It can also be very busy as I found out last year. I have never seen as many aircraft in a circuit at the same time.

IIRC there is a free landing thingy cut out token thing in Pilot Mag for both Fenland and Leicester.

Without the land away, I took my dad over to Selby then up North to Wombleton over to Scarborough, down the coast, then cut back across near Hornsea.

Can't quite remember how long it took, but he enjoyed it. If you want to land away, you could always do that, and drop in at Sandtoft on the way back? Would fit nicely into four hours anyway.

There is a PPRuNe fly-in at Coventry that day?
See sticky at the top:}

Brings back memories of hour building out of Sherburn. Don't SAC have reciprocal landing fees arrangements with other airfields (they used to and used that as a starting point for a flight plan.) Carlise is a good one for a nice day or there's that little place near Derby that I can remember the name of!
