MEP Ground exam
I've got my MEP rating ground exam this weekend. As far as I'm aware there's no standard test and each school makes up its own one (subject to CAA approval). Does anyone out there have any idea about what sort of subjects I might be expected to know about ?!

Hampstead,
As far as I can remember mine was questions on information from the POH, a mixture of technical stuff and operating procedures Brooklands |
The "exam" is highly variable but the questions you might be asked include:
- characteristics of the aircraft on which the test is to be flown (speeds, weights, engines etc) - critical engine: definition, effect - Minimum single engine control speed - definition and factors affecting - Red line and blue line, definitions - Take-off techniques at high weights - Effect of Bank angle on Single Engine Performance - P factor, torque, gyroscopic effect etc I think that pretty much covers it. 2D |
Expect some questions to be about MEP planes in general and some specific to the model of plane you will be taking the test in.
I lost some valuable marks by not knowing the tyre pressures. One question asked for the nosewheel pressure and the other, the main gear pressure. Can't imagine why I need to have these figures committed to memory though. Also expect quite a bit on asymmetric flight. There were some questions that were not specifically MEP. For example, which magnetos, are connected to which spark plugs. Good luck! AP |
