Right on the 09 ?
 

Hi all

I was just wondering if someone more experienced could answer me the following question?

If after touching down on runway 27 the ATCO says 'G-BY right on the 09 high speed'.
Does this mean taxi quickly all the way to the other end of the runway and turn right onto the taxiway at the numbers (09) marked on the runway?

I am referring to flying at liverpool airport here by the way

Hi Aerofoil,

He/she means, turn right onto the High Speed Turn off taxiway for runway 09. Which will mean a right hand turn of about 135 degrees onto it if landing on 27. . . .

(Edited to say: Having looked at my Jepp plate for EGGP, it's the one where holding point Foxtrot is.)

I've often been told to exit on the "high speed" which as greatorex says is off on a 30/45 degrees to the runway to allow high speed taxi off the runway, what puzzles me is why ATC would give the instruction to turn off and turn through 135 or so degrees? because it then becomes the slow speed!

Absolutely correct, Sensible.

The thing is that Aerofoil was landing on 27 and told to turn onto the 09 High Speed Turn-off – which is, of course, the H.S. turn-off for the reciprocal (09) runway – hence the 135 or so degree turn onto it. Assuming he's flying a light a/c then he would have been on the deck and slowed down well before the turn. (H.S. Turn-off's only really being used for larger a/c who, in this case, would use the 27 turn-off).

One would hope they only use this for local based aircraft - the more, unambiguous, "Next right" or "First right" being less confusing for visitors.

Thanks, Greatorex,all is now clear, obviously the reciprocal high speed is the shortest route to the GA ramp. And so ends a mystery. Thanks.:D

This begs another question............................what is the correct r/t phraseology for "gimme that again in plain English"?

I did my FIC at Liverpool and when landing R27 would get something like.

"Turn right on Foxtrot call passing Kilo (i.e. the GA Ramp)"

OR

"Vacate next right"

They were probably bored and tried to see if they could tie your brain in knots :O

If you ever have any query about an ATC instruction or are not sure what they expect of you:

SPEAK UP

and ask them to clarify.

If you are still unsure ask again until you are sure to understand the instruction.

Unless you tell them that you are not sure they will assume that you know what to do and plan the rest of their actions accordingly.
