Storm Warning For Monday

Have just seen a genuine storm warning on another web site for Monday.

It seems that the south and west of the UK will be worst affected with winds at 70mph and possibly 100mph in exposed areas.

That sounds about right seeing I have booked to fly that day. :(

Presently the fronts are so close together that forecasting anything on a particular day seems impossible. I've been watching the forecasts the last week or two and most are accurate in that the forecast weather happens somewhere, but are wide of the mark, for a given time and location.

I'm doing an IR/MEP renewal out of Biggin tomorrow. That should be fun :ugh: :ugh: :yuk: :uhoh:

Yep, looks like it will be fun tomorrow! Spent most of the day trying to chase down owners to get them to tie their machines down properly and then having to do it myself in the dark when they don't turn up. Not sensible if you've £250,000 of a/c without any tie downs!!:uhoh:

Well since ours is currently forced due to servicing to be in the hangar instead of a tie-down, and has been all week, we'll live with the expense of it a little more :O

Make sure you plan the drift carefully for the holds. As a guide, around mid-day Heathrow is forecasting 01012KT BECMG 34015G30KT TEMPO 22020G35KT. Gatwick is offering 22020G35KT TEMPO 25025G48KT. Just interpolate... :)

In south Essex, its raining, but the treetops aren't moving and the flags are hanging limply. Is this the lull before the storm or have we missed it?

maggioneato 12th January 2004 17:17

On the basis of all the warnings, I re booked to fly Thurs, it did'nt seem a good idea to fly with such warnings in force. What have we got, blue skies, 7 knot wind, its a lovely day here. What happened to the storms? Anyone out there got what they said.

I think that the depression is moving further south than originally anticipated. The Met Office is now saying that Holland, Belgium and parts of Germany will get the worst of the weather. However they are saying that a further depression will come through tonight bringing high winds for the UK especially the south west.

Comparing the LHR, LGW and LCY TAFs at 0720 this morning was a complete joke.

They would have to have been a hundred miles apart for all of them to be accurate.

If only I had believed LCY instead of LGW I'd have an MEP/IR renewal by now:{

Not sure what's happened to all this blowy stuff. Went up this afternoon at Elstree with my FI to blow away the winter cobwebs and get my currency back.

Calm and still at 1230 when we decided to go out to play, northerly and brisk at 1330, westerly and brisker at 1430 when we got off (no crosswinds ... shame!) and then moderate westerlies again at 1530 when we completed the detail. Not a lot of traffic about either.

Bizarre and changeable winds, but where's this mooted storm?

Duncan
