Caernarfon EGCK

Last year, Caernarfon airfield came in for some bad press (for a variety of reasons).

I spend my resting hours (ha!) in the mountains near there, and have in the past flown from there many times, so I was sad that the reputation went downhill.

Last week, I flew from there three times, and am happy to report that things are back to "what they should be". The airfield is under new management, and is friendly and welcoming.

So if you were staying away "on principle", the time has come to cross out that principle.

There are several PA28s - all old, but in reasonable nick and very reasonably priced for PPL hire (after a very thorough checkout). There is also a much newer C172 - a bit more expensive.

I have no "interest" in the place other than as an occasional user.

And the trip round Llanberis, Snowdon, Beddgelert and Porthmadog (talk to Valley and Llanbedr), when the cloudbase and vis permit, is a delight.

I haven't been in there recently, but I've heard the same thing from a number of people. Nice airfield, so that's good news. :ok:

I have been in a lot this summer and they could not be more helpfull, they officialy close for fuel at 18:00 but they have often come and opened for me at closer to 19:00 without any gripes, the guy's running the place seem to actually like flying!
Very refreshing for an airfield operator:O

Excellent post Keef. If any one is inspired at all to go then you may just bump into some ppruners. :ok:

Not being drawn on the hi-viz vest argument ;) If you don't have one, they'll sell you one (with their logo) for a very reasonable price.

I did notice that the "station dog" didn't have a hi-viz vest...

Totally agree with Keef's comments: had my first visit there last month, and the place is fabulous - so do go!

Andy ;)

Yes it's a nice airfield - there hi-viz vests are half the price of Transair!

Great flying with you Keef! sorry the only bird available was g-HM but that's the way things go.

Fly safe,

WF.
