PPL SEP Renewal

For a SEP rating that has lapsed by less than 3 years, if you do the training as deemed required by an FTO and flight test I believe the examiner can just sign off your licence? Is this correct and is there any paperwork or fee that has to be sent to the CAA? Note this is for renewal of an expired rating NOT revalidation.

Yes that's correct, after a successful proficiency check the examiner can sign the licence (as long as the rating is still on the front) and you're good to go. The examiner emails SRG 1157 to the CAA, no fees are due to them.

If the licence has been re-printed with the expired rating on the back then you'll need to apply to the CAA using SRG 3108 and pay the £96 fee.

FTOs are long gone and replaced by DTOs and ATOs, or simply an instructor if the rating has expired by less than 3 years.

Excellent, many thanks both and that's also good to know regarding use of an instructor for assessment rather than DTO/ATO.
