FAA IR currency in Europe
Hello, i currently hold a FAA CPL with an IR and have just recently passed the EASA ATPL exams, im planning on doing my conversion here in europe but my IR is not current.
I've done 6 approaches, intercepting and tracking, and holding in January 2022, so if i want to have my IR current ill need to do this again so i can start my conversion. i wanted to know if i can do it on a simulator with a EASA certified instructor or does it have to be with a FAA certified instructor? or if i might be able to do it in a simulator with a safety pilot. any help is appreciated. Thank you |
Sounds like you need an Instrument Proficiency Check with an FAA CFII.

Sounds like. Rubbish
You can log 6 approaches in the BATD/SIM. Self certified. You are in the grace period. IPC due Jan 23 https://americanflyers.com/faa-instr...y-regulations/ |
Well that's even easier then!

yeah i know im in the grace period, i was just curious as to wether i needed an instructor with me in the sim when i log the approaches etc.
Thank you! |
Note that it's a condition of the device approval that the operator makes a copy of the FAA LOA available to you, so it should be evident whether the device counts for maintaining instrument currency.

Thank you! see part 61.51(g)(5) Can use a FAA approved BATD / AATD to maintain currency without an instructor present. The BATD / AATD should have a LOA available which you should be able to take a copy of for your records. The FAA amended the rules in recent years regarding LOAs. LOAs are now only valid for 60 calendar months therefore there should be an expiry date on the LOA. If not the operator needs to obtain a new LOA ( usually easily downloaded from the manufacturer's website ) |
