Low cost yoke/suction iPad units
 

Hi everyone,

Looking for recommendations for a low cost eBay type RAM iPad mini 4 yoke/suction based unit.

Wondering if the low cost units from eBay are good enough? vs the premium RAM branded units.

Suction cups
 

I flew a Cessna 172 once that had a device stuck to the window by several suction cups.
The only snag was that beyond FL085 the device fell off because of the lower atmospheric pressure.

I have two of these for my phone (standard big size smartphone held on the long axis), one in the car, one I usually use in a PA28. Good grip on the phone, takes a lot to get it back off the windscreen! Do have an allen key to hand for making adjustments. You want to check, but I think it's likely to take your tablet on the short axis.

Beware placing anything that obscures the view out or of any of the instruments. In certificated aircraft, the view out is a part of the certification. I teach the gap between the curved part of the coaming edge and the door frame is for viewing the horizon in the climb, to get the right pitch attitude; it also is an indicator of yaw. People really shouldn't stick tablets or phones there.
There was a really terrible CAA photo of a huge tablet stuck on top of the coaming that rightly drew condemnation. The best (and in my view ONLY) place for devices is properly panel mounted. With modern avionics, there is no excuse for extraneous iPads or similar. If you don't want to buy certificated stuff, people like Airgizmos do some decent panel mounts for tablets.

Fair point from TheOddOne, personally I usually mount mine on the right, so it's not obstructing my main field of view, and it's usually possible to just have it in the way of something I don't constantly need to monitor, such as the transponder or some placards. I really don't like stuff mounted on the yoke or in my forward field of view either.
