Returning to flight...

Afternoon,

Long time lurker here. I last flew in 2010, amassing a staggering 21 hours towards my PPL. Unfortunately, other activities got in the way, and I stopped. Possibly also to do with Air Law exams too!
I am looking at restarting later this year, and I realise that I will be starting essentially from scratch after such a long time. However I still have my old set of Pooleys Flight Manuals, and was thinking of refreshing my memory from them. My question is, should I splash out on a new set or will my 8th Edition 2008 ones be OK for now, as I'm assuming basic flight principles haven't changed?

I don't want to have to "unlearn" anything fundemental that may have been updated , but equally don't want to spend a couple of hundred quid on books for no reason.

Many thanks!

Sadly, I think your 2008 books are really out-of-date and will only serve to as you say give you lots of stuff to unlearn.
You could do worse than buy the complete package including not only books, but the other tools you'll need such as ruler, protractor, computer, map pens, kneeboard etc. You also get a bag to keep it all in so no excuses about arriving for your leeson without the necessary kit. It is a bit irritating having to lend kit to students.

On the other hand, just buy Book 1 for now, get some bookings in with your local school and see if it's really for you this time.

Thank you! I thought that may be the case. Fortunately I also still have all of the other stuff still, in the same bag (including my C152 checklist!), so at least I am slightly ahead of the game there.
