Classic Aircraft Insurance
Looking at buying a classic machine (50 years +) and wondered if any one could point me in the direction of any insurance companies that specialise in this. I would also be interested to know what restrictions might be imposed. I remember having classic car insurance and I was restricted to under 3000 miles per year so wondered if there might be a similar type restriction. Appreciate any info you might have. Thanks |
My classic (?) Spamcan turned 50 this year, and much of the UK fleet probably isn't far behind! Unaware of any specialist insurers, but it's worth trying several for quotes. I won't promote the people I'm with as it probably isn't allowed, but they were very helpful in matching the best price I could obtain from a relatively recent newcomer (to UK) that does everything online and is very competitive. As far as hours are concerned, you'll be asked how many hours you expect to fly (and how many last year, and experience on type and overall, hull value etc) and that decides premium. Because you are subject to a maintenance regime, there should be no restrictions on hours, just how much risk you represent.
Do try a few as quotes can vary dramatically! If it isn't obvious who the online guys are, feel free to PM me........ |
Part owner of 2. Started new group with 1967 aircraft last year and had no problem getting insurance. Have also answered your other post in other section.
PS both aircraft are on LAA Permit, though one would be EASA but for a historical oddity. Neither is kit/homebuild. |

I have a 1948 cessna 140 registered N and based in Italy, insured with Axel Neuman in germany.
The only restriction is related to who's piloting the plane, which in this case is only me,no big deal. for the rest no restrictions,it's valid all over europe (no need for a world wide coverage),I pay aroun 550 euros a year for third party only, and it would cost about 1.100 euros for full coverage (hull loss, fire, theft and so forth). They only asked me how many hours I had before giving me a quote. Pretty simple. |
