Southend is open 24 hours, no idea of cost though.

We can do it out of Elstree. At the moment, by departing just before closing time to Oxford, then night nav to Southend for dual circuits until you're ready for the five solo. Cheap is not an option though, it's not just the landing fees, you have to pay for two hotel rooms. You may well need two nights................

You misunderstand slightly, the hotel rooms are not optional. One for you, one for the instructor, at the Holiday Inn right by the airport. This is so you can fly back to Elstree for 9am the next morning.

Did mine at Oxford (as CBG is closed at weekends....grrrr) which is open till 22:30 (local) seven days, but often open later as they can open till midnight. If staying over, lots of cheap hotels very close and Enterprise-Rent-a-Car on site do £14.95/day for car hire over weekends. They did several circuits and landings with parking for a fair flat fee around £100 - just call their operations.

Oxford is great but for two things. At the moment only one and a half hours night can be guaranteed (without the extension) and there is so often a crosswind outside our night training limit.

Southend is 24 hours.

If it helps these clubs, based at Southend, appear to offer the course:

Man, you've gotta be really desperate to do night circuits at Southend. Unless they've changed their policy they charge a full (astronomical) landing fee every time your wheels touch the tarmac.

MrAverage 3rd May 2019 06:53

At least they let us in, not just for night but for student solo, including QXC, but for instrument approaches too. Mixing us in with Easyjet et al, it's almost like the USA!

Try any of that at Biggin...........................

Aaah! Google!

Landing fees don't seem to have changed much in decades, this is what I seem to remember paying aeons ago.
Note the night surcharge.
You could end up with a thousand pound bill for a couple of hours of circuits inc. a/c and instructor hire. Plus parking and hotac...
Just make sure your steed falls under the 1 ton threshold or costs go up dramatically.
