MS 893E POH / Flight Manual

Hi All,

Pls. help. I've just purchased one of these quirky birds and cannot find an English version of the flight manual/checklist.

Google has not been my friend so far, so I'm hoping I'll find an MS owning friend here!

Thanks in advance.

Hi SSS,

i cant find one for the E in English, but this is one for the A model, MS893A which is the closest I have found: http://www.rfk.nu/assets/dokument/SE...lyghandbok.pdf

I believe that you can contact Socata, and they will have this on file somewhere, probably able to send you one for a price! Otherwise its a translation job for someone?

i hope this helps,
alex90

Thanks, Alex. Yes, I'll probably do as you suggest and contact Socata. Thank you for taking the time to help me out.

Kind regards,

Mark (SSS)

I am available for translating the odd phrase, or perhaps a paragraph here or there - but not an entire POH

alex90 19th Aug 2018 20:59

You could also download the French one (http://www.beligneux.net/files/manex-ms893e.PDF), print it out and use something like the Google Translate app which translates automatically using the camera on your phone? That's also quite easy. (Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...slate&hl=en_GB or iPhone: https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/goog...414706506?mt=8 - select the camera option it will automatically translate the text printed)

I have had a quick look at the two POH and struggle to find any major differences between the A POH and the E POH. The MTOW is the same, all speeds are the same... etc.. EASA states that there is a difference relating to the full down elevator deflection being 28degrees on the earlier (A and B) models versus 20 degrees on the E to E-D models. There are some crucial information on here: https://www.easa.europa.eu/sites/def...1-26112010.pdf

With all these options available - perhaps you don't need to pay Socata some money? Although I assume that they probably have a digital version that could be sent for little effort....

Good luck!

Alex, excuse me, with all respect but that is not a good recommendation. French is far too poetical a language to be left to machine translation.

For the simplest of examples: "wing tip". In French, that is saumon d'aile
What does your translator machine make of that? Mine gave wing salmon - amusing from a distance, annoying when trying to do something useful.

Hi Jan,

Definitely not trying to put you out of a job!!! A real human translation will of course ALWAYS be SO MUCH better than a machine translation. One cannot compare diamonds and wood like for like!!!

What I meant was that items in the POH that I consider important to a pilot, such as speeds, rpm ranges, operating limitations (ie: manoeuvres, rpm limits, G limits, temps, CofG limits...etc...) are all very self explanatory translations that could be typed into Google, for instance your very own example "saumon d'aile" entered into Google (not even in Google translate) gives you: https://goo.gl/dX5Jtr which at least on my browser shows "French detected - English: Wingtip".

In this instance, the differences according to the EASA type certificate look rather minor, all speeds, all limitations are identical (except Germany's rpm limitations and the full down elevator deflection being 8 degrees less on the E and E-D models). Using the MS893A manual, and confirming values with the French MS893E manual with a little Google translate help might be all that is required for most pilots. Which is why I suggested the DIY approach until you hit a brick wall. Then Double-Barrel - you should definitely ask Jan!!

Anyway - hope this helps!

Dear Jan and Alex,

It's heartwarming to have you both working to assist me with this. Restores my faith in human (and pilot) nature.

Many thanks,

Hi SSS,

I just realised I still have a 1979 U.K. version of the MS 893E Flight Manual. The quality isn't great but it is largely legible. Please PM me if you are still looking.

In any event I hope you have as much enjoyment with your Rallye as I did with mine!

MS 893 FLT MAN (english)

I have a Socata Flt Man (English) for an 893 E which covers all manner of things including performance details with both fixed and VP prop.
Can scan items of interest if req.
The 893 has some differences from the earlier model (electric flaps, and fuse/panel change).
I operated one for years for banner towing and it served me well right up till the time a tree crushed its hangar (with plane in it).
Very strong machine as a ten ton tree failed to break the spar !!!.
Usual corrosion issues (ACF 50 very good) and check canopy rails are not exfoliating as they are spot welded and replacement means drilling out and riveting replacements in (if available).
My only gripe was lack of N-wheel steering which makes it 100% brake reliant in crosswinds or strip operation.
PM for some pointers or flt man info

Did you ever manage to find a MS 893 POH in PDF. If so, could you please post link or PM me, many thanks.

I have the manual for a Rallye 180T in English if that is of use. It's a PDF of a scanned manual. I believe that Rallye was a later designation for the MS893 - but I could be wrong.
