Pilot Medical Declarations vs. LAPL Medical Certificate
 

Has anyone who has made a Pilot Medical Declaration done so because he/she was unable to meet LAPL Medical Certificate requirements, even with a restriction?

This question does NOT apply to those who have chosen the PMD due to cost / personal preference.

I used the self declaration medical last year but as my aircraft is EASA Annex 11 I would from April 18 need to have an LAPL Medical and I did that with an AME last week. My local GP could have done, but seemed over confused by it but wanted more than the AME and I've never met him/her so best to visit an AME. I no longer fly foreign nor at night.

I did the same before Christmas Gordon as I was several thousand miles from the UK.

Now back for a couple of weeks I visited my AME who had problems registering my LAPL medical. He had to talk to a helpful lady at the CAA who deleted my self declaration.

It appears you cannot have both at the same time.

It is a fault in the way the Self Declaration is recorded in the pilot's CAA record.
The work around is that the Self Declaration is removed from the record to allow a new medical to be loaded and then the declaration is reinstated. You can hold both at the same time.

I don't think we're answering BEagle's original enquiry. He wanted to know who had chosen a PMD because they were unable to obtain a LAPL medical.

I have one such person. They obtained a NPPL with PMD and as they want to fly EASA aircraft after 8th APril, they need a LAPL and LAPL medical, which they have been struggling to obtain. It looks like it MIGHT be possible, but at a potential cost of around £1,000 pa for cardiovascular investigations.

Is there any chance of the 8th April cut off being moved forward, or even left open, as it has been moved on a few times already.

For the OP yes there are quite a few situations where the LAPL guidelines are more rigorous than the DVLA Group 1 driving licence requirement.
Especially now as further guidance on LAPL certification for various conditions is issued by the CAA. An OSL certification may be possible but is not the same as the passenger carrying ability conferred by the PMD.

No chance in the date being extended according to the CAA GA unit, but the LAA magazine reports that a derogation is being sought for PMD on EASA aircraft post April 8.
