Locations

Hi All,

Having just started the navigation aspect of training I’m excited about planning hour building trips in the future and I’m curious to hear everyone’s ideas and opinions on Interesting locations / flights whether it be Stornaway or northern France.

Fire at will!

"Interesting locations"? What then are your interests?

I did some flying in SEP's through France and down into Spain and to the Balearics. Some awesome fun but expensive and you need to plan locations carefully as especially into Spain you can pick up insane handling/landing fee's. Weather far more docile and plan it well plenty of nice locations to visit on the ground.

Agree, the only caveat I have is I am a bit apprehensive now about routing down thru the middle of Spain just east of Madrid due to at least 3 recent fatal (for both parties) bird strikes with humongous Griffon vultures that have their habitat located in the area between the 2 controlled airspaces. Any future trips to the Med will be flown down the east or west side of the country as these big bastards don't seem to be well versed on see and avoid or airspace classifications.

My other hobby is railways. I would like to see a steam train, from the air.
Flying from (Manchester) Barton, there are a reasonable number of preserved lines within easy reach.

Not too far from you but an interesting trip - come over to us at Ronaldsway. Very GA friendly, good facilities, smashing caff (Cafe 26) almost on the perimeter, and a lovely little Museum to boot!

And a steam train.:) Ronaldsway Halt is a request stop on the Isle of Man Railway between Castletown and Ballasalla at Ronaldsway, near the Isle of Man Airport. Passengers wishing to board the train here can signal the driver to stop the train; to alight from the train the guard must be notified in advance https://www.gov.im/categories/travel...steam-railway/

You could try to spot the remains of the mainline steam locomotive visible on the island off SW Skye. Possibly flying all the hours to unfreeze your ATPL while doing so.

Kortrijk Wevelgem EBKT has customs and a great restaurant, with easy/simple/friendly airport.
