UK overflight of non ICAO compliant permit to fly aircraft
Further to successive recommendations by the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC), the CAA now allows both foreign home built aircraft and certain historic foreign registered aircraft types allowed into the UK without applying for a permit.

Information on this general exemption is published in Official Record Series 4 ORS4 No.1249.

long overdue! the same way Belgium wouldn’t allow home builds from the UK to land without paying for a permit until this year,
so never landed just cruised over and landed elsewhere, it might bring in some extra revenue for UK airfields,

The CAA surprises us again with a sensible decision. Credit where credit is due, keep it up CAA!

Now just need to drop the 28 day maximum!

Even money that never happens - it would just be a licence to bypass the entire UK airworthiness system for anything without a CofA.

What is all the fuss about? The UK has always honoured the 1980 ECAC agreement on homebuilts. The exemption was previously in ORS4 No. 909. Only the inclusion of certain historic military aircraft is new.

The change so far as I understand it is that permission is now automatic, rather than needing to supply paperwork and be given permission.

Homebuilt aircraft registered in ECAC member states have always been exempt from seeking permission.
