Aussie pilot arrested over meth smuggling Calif
72 yr old Hugh Gorman of Melbourne was arrested locally (Northern California). He had purchased 560 lbs (~250 kg) of meth, street value said to be $200 million, and a Cessna P-210n for $630K. He planned to fly the meth to Australia. So far so good. But he was a terrible pilot and couldn't pass his check ride. Plus, the P-210 was not adequate for the route he planned, the broker that sold him the aircraft estimated his plan would require overloading the P-210 by 2000 lb.
Meanwhile, back in Oz, the authorities seized $2.4 million in cash. I have to conclude that there is a lot of money, but not a lot of brains in the meth biz. The details are amusing, here's the article in my local news, or search to find other sources.
