if your are in Essex then tiger club hire out turbs at £75 per tacho.
After doing the tailwheel rating in the cub for around £160 per hour then getting over 20 hours or so experience. You also need to be able to fit in the damn thing.

I would also suggest TC type flying is not good prep for the CPL.

For me the cheapest would be to get a share in an LAA type, stick a tent in the back, take a week or 2 off work in summer and go places.

I would disagree with that statement. Stick and rudder skills are really important for any pilot! If you learn with the right mentor/instructor at the tiger club, your navigation skills, handling skills will get far beyond the CPL requirements. (The nav section will be a doddle for instance!) When you go back to tricycle gear aeroplanes, everything will be so much easier, and you will have so many good habits too.

I don't think they charge for instruction, and i believe they currently charge £140 per hour (hobbs) for the cub (could call them /email them for info). I don't know a place that is cheaper than the tiger club for tailwheel conversions near London.

But sure - if you want to be pushed to not think on your feet, only follow checklists, and standard operating procedures, not know what to do when a new emergency arises, rely on your GPS, and autopilot to fly for you. Not enjoy the freedom of flying... Scrape by with minimum knowledge - then yes, perhaps you shouldn't consider expanding your skillset!
