Do PUT hours abroad count towards PPL revalidation?
 

I went on holiday recently and took a 1 hour flying lesson with an instructor around Rio de Janeiro

I have logged this as PUT in my logbook - will it count towards my SEP reval or is it invalid for some reason?

It's valid but NOT as any part of the required instructional element of the minimum hours unless the person in the other seat was a current EASA instructor.

Edit to give a bit more detail - and do note that this all assumes that the aircraft you flew PUT in would be SEP Class if you'd flown it in the UK - so, not a microlight or similar.

As you'll know, Revalidation by Experience for your SEP Class Rating requires:

- Total of 12 hours in the final 12 months of 2 years since your last Revalidation/Renewal (including 12 takeoffs & landings)
OF WHICH:
- A minimum of 6 hours must be PIC.
- A minimum of 1 hour must be with an (EASA) instructor*

So that gives you a minimum of 7 hours for which the Brazilian PUT cannot count. But you can count it for 1 of the remaining 5 hours needed to achieve your overall minimum of 12.


*or a Pass in a (EASA) Proficiency Check; but from context I don't think this is concerning you.

I did part of my ppl training in the south of France with a British run flying school now no longer existing..I did about 20 hours in all part dual part solo ..and it definitely counted towards my PPL..this was back in 1989..so I would be surprised if your flt time was not recognised.

The rules have undergone two major changes since then. In 1999 JAR-FCL was adopted and in 2014 EASA rules were adopted, so the National Common Sense approach of 1989 has long been lost in the abyss of European bureaucracy. BossEyed has it right.

Is that just in Europe?
