GTN650 airspace dashed not solid line
 
Hi all

I have a Garmin 650 and the aviation database is updated by someone each month. After a recent update, most airspace is shown as dashed lines which are really difficult to read and made worse because it looks like the dashed lines have dashed shadows. It was much easier to understand when the lines were solid. I have looked at the settings and can't see anything obvious that was changed in error.

Anyone else had this issue? Even better, anyone got any advice how to change it back to a single solid line for the airspace boundary?

I think you have a faulty database update. Try a new download and update of
the database and failing that a software update.

I just updated our 750 and noticed the same. However, I think from memory it's meant to differentiate ATZs and CTRs from TMAs etc. I actually like it!

For what it's worth, the latest navdata update for Garmin Pilot has dropped all UK ATZ & MATZ. I'n wondering if someone in IT has put a 0 where there should be a 1.

I'd noticed the missing MATZ on my Aera 500.

Does the 650 update stop it warning me about every blinking piece of airspace in the same county? The warnings are so frequent they are going to be meaningless and distracting and then I will miss something important.

Feedback from Garmin kindly obtained by the Avionics shop which installed my kit...

"The line style is due to the airspace reclassification effort we began starting in cycle 1706. An airspace can be categorized in multiple ways: by classification and by type and the line style is based on how the airspace is categorized. In this case the airspace is in two main categories in that it is both a Class D airspace and a CTA. For purposes of drawing the line style we have to choose just one of those and as a rule, Garmin has chosen to give precedence to “Class” (D) over “Type” (CTA). If this were a CTA that was NOT ALSO a Class D airspace, we would fall back to just it’s type which would result in the solid line the customer was used to seeing before.

One can still determine that this is a CTA by the “CTA” in the SUA name."
