TB10/VP Checkout
 
Hoping some sky gods can shed some light for me - I'm struggling to find anything online.

At the moment I'm checked out on a HR200 and PA28... I was wondering what I need to do to be able to fly a TB10? I have heard talk of one or two hours instruction but needing 5 hours total supervised time?

Does anyone know where I can find the CAA regs/guidelines on this?

There is no CAA minimum requirement, and no legislation with regards to this with the exception to have the differences signed off.

The TB10 has a variable pitch propeller, which means that you need the VP differences signed off by an FI or CRI to legally fly the plane.

Depending on previous experience and ability, this may only be a 1 hour checkout flight, or may require a few hours of training to get used to the differences. Any experienced FI / CRI will know when you are ready to fly without anyone else.

Any other suggested hour minima will be related to insurance requirements.

Did you learn at Earls Colne by any chance? Thinking of joining the TB10 group there?

There's no hiding on these message boards! I did learn at Earl's Colne and consider joining the group there - I had a look at the TB10 and had a chat etc, I was meant to receive an email regarding joining etc but that never materialised... I have since joined a group at Duxford which is a little closer to home for me which has a hr200, pa28, c177 and a tb10.

So I would need to find an instructor happy to do the check ride from Dx.

Brad,

Generally most groups have "preferred instructors" which groups have a tendency to prefer using. I would contact the group manager and ask him / her who they would recommend. I would be very surprised if they don't / can't recommend someone.

Brad2523: There is indeed a preferred instructor for the group's TB10. Contact the group's owner and he will sort it out.
The five hours under supervision is for the insurance.

I suppose "under supervision" is not necessarily dual.
