Aviation-related businesses in central Scotland
Hi all,
I am looking for details of aviation-related businesses in central Scotland. Want to hassle them for cash! As you may or may not know, Strathaven Airfield is now operated by a not-for-profit company: and one of its aims is to promote aviation. At Perth, the Take-Off Charity has been working for some years to get school kids in the air: Take Off | Providing flying opportunities for young people in Scotland So what we want to do is get Lanarkshire school kids to solo standard. The aim for 2016 is to get at least three, if not five, signed up. The Take-Off folk said last year they would be willing to make us a "subsidiary" - so no need to re-invent the wheel. And they have worked out selection criteria, protection of vulnerable people actions etc. The BMAA have offered free membership; a flight supplies company has offered some logbooks, manuals etc; Strathaven Airfield will give free club membership and £500 per student towards the cost of lessons.... and we want some others to "top up". Ideally, we reckon 10 hours to solo. So the sum per student is £1,000 (after the airfield's £500 per student contribution). And to save hassling folk every year, we would be looking for a three-to five year commitment. We will, of course, also be pursuing the wind farm people etc. But this is to find aviation-related businesses in central Scotland. Believe it or not, the government doesn't even have an idea of what there is - despite the UK being the world's second largest aviation manufacturer according to some reports! So we have people like Martin Aerospace in Lanark, or Teledyne in Cumbernauld, or......... You tell me, please! |
