Revalidation of SEP / renewal of expired
 

Hi,

My SEP is due to expire on Sunday - what are my options? I have done 9 hours over the last year. I remember reading something before that it must be 12 hours? or something like that. And I can't find any info on here or Google about it.

What happens if I let it expire too?

You need to do another 3 hours including a flight with an instructor AND get all the paperwork completed before close of play on Sunday. (Oh and 12 takeoffs and landings in the last 12 months, too. There's a bit more but the instructor you fly with will fill you in).

That sounds a bit unlikely in the time frame so the best option is to go to a Registered Facility or an Approved Training Organisation, explain your circumstances and they will advise you. Typically you'll need an assessment to see what training is required for you to come up to the standard for a Licence Proficiency Check.

If you did your 9 hours in a club or school aircraft, they should be able to look after you and in my view, ought to have been keeping an eye on your hours/expiry dates as well.

FAQ 9 will tell you what you need to do to revalidate by experience.

Basically you need to have done 12 hours flying in the second 12 months of the two year SEP Rating validity. Of these twelve hours a minimum of 6 must be P1 and one must be with an Instructor (FI or CRI).

Thanks guys. FAQ 9 says about 2 years AND end of that month, so do I have until the end of this month?

What is the date of your expiry as written in your licence?

If the SEP expiry date on your licence is the 16th, that is it. (Although the Examiner who signed you off two or so years ago should have made it 31/10/2016.) Do you have an EASA licence or some other?

16th October. Doesn't say EASA says CAA. Rather than trying to do four hours this weekend I can get my instructor/examiner to sign me off can I?

Why 4 hours? The 12 hours can include the instructional flight, so only three hours. If done within the time an instructor can sign of that flight but the licence needs signing by an examiner so make sure there is an examiner handy. If you go past Sunday then it is a test with an examiner anyway and he/she will be able to sign you off.

Sorry. I mean rather than doing the 4 hours is there sone kind of checkout who my instructor (and he is an examiner) can do to revalidate me?

Yes, it's called a proficiency check & is no big deal. If you let the rating lapse it becomes a bigger deal & the longer you leave it, the more you have to do to renew the rating.

I still dont understand why you are saying 4 hours if you have done 9 - that only leaves 3 to do:confused::confused:

Please examine your licence carefully. If it's a JAR licence the licence itself may have run out, or will do soon. If it's an old CAA non-expiring licence you'll be ok.


Your chosen Examiner should be able to get you through whatever you need to do.
