Custom Logbooks?

Hi All,
Long time thread-stalker first time thread-maker.

I have a question for those of you out there not happy with the design of your logbooks, can you get a custom one?
It's not that I'm unhappy with mine at all, just to be honest, it's a tad boring. When looking online, there's nothing other than the standard navy blue or black "Pilot's Flying Logbook" and I wanted to look for a slightly nicer one.

I suppose you could class it as a some-what 'legal' document, but with that in mind i'm not looking for a different page design or layout, just the front cover.

If anyone's got any info, i'd appreciate it!

Tom.

Some years ago I used to keep a log book for Margaret Thatcher, for her flights on the VC10. We purchased the book from Harrods and used a calligrapher to fill it in. When the book was full, we could not afford to buy another, so she had to go!

@T/S: have you checked the legal requirements for logbooks? But if it is only the outside looks that bore you, there are a multitude of self-adhesive cover foils available. Avoid pink girly designs, though, you can never know who you get for a ramp check.

@Whopity: ROTFL!

Can't find much on the legal side of things. Might just whack a triple seven sticker on the back!

Cheers

Evening Speedbird.

If you don't like the internals of your logbook, designing stickers on your PC, printing them out and sticking them to your headings works well. I do this with an old, but much loved, Pooleys commercial logbook, which has a Pooleys supplied leather cover on it.

Not a pilot logbook, but I designed a non-aviation personal records book a few years ago for the use of my family - I designed the cover, the contents, everything - uploaded it, and just pay per copy for myself and anybody who wants one. I used a service called Lulu

www.lulu.com

I think that, so long as you can live happily within their book sizes, and don't mind putting the effort in - it'll do exactly what you want. My hardback medical records book is excellent quality, exactly what I wanted, and costs me about £20/copy if I choose to order them. You can also make it available, should you wish, for anybody else who wants to buy one directly - even put it up on Amazon.

If you don't like Lulu's book sizes, then although I've not tried them, I believe that other competing services exist who presumably may have different formats available.

There's also this, which looks stunning online, although I've never seen one in the flesh

As one who does not fly multi or instrument or night or anything other than single, day VFR the standard format is such a waste and an irritation so I do like the options of that leatherpilotlogbook option, but "10 year summery"? For 80 bucks I'd want better than that.

"10 year summery"?

Hope it's not followed by a 10 year wintery.

Their spelling, not mine!

I've got one of the leatherpilotlogbook ones, I can't remember where I got it from, had it for years, though.

It is a thing of beauty and, at the rate I've been going, I only need to keep flying for another 143 years to fill it.

Cheers guys, appreciate the help!

Just enjoy your flying and don't get hung up about things that don't matter. life is too short

It is what is on the inside that matters!

When I started flying I was encouraged by my instructor to buy a rather nice leather logbook cover. Black (deep navy blue and maroon I recall were also available), it was well made and tastefully embossed with 'Personal Flying Logbook' or similar on the front cover and inset in light, subtle smallish font gold type. I liked it. My current logbook is the UK CAP407 type for which I've not seen a similar cover (not that I'm looking). Those I have noticed for the larger commercial sized logbooks appear to have a big set of gold wings and pilot logbook in big F/O letters on the front a bit like those gash licence covers you can get - presumably so an innocent punter doesn't pick it up off the clubhouse bar thinking it's a menu? I knew someone who used to cover their logbooks with expired laminated charts cut to size (but he was ex-public school).

For a long time I am printing my customized logbook pages at home and let the local bookbinder do his gorgeous job.
