When do I need to renew my FROTL after lapsed license?

Hello all,

I last flew P1 some 9 years ago, and am about to get back in the air again in the next week or so (Hooray)

I have trawled the forum for answers and the CAA website and am happy with what I need to do to get current again (SEP expired in 2009 and FRTO March 2014)

I have one question I cannot find an answer to - as I'm not technically a new "stude" will I need to renew my FRTOL before I start flying again, or would that be done as part of my new license issue post dual / solo and skills test?

Not sure if I am ok to fly solo / dual with an out of date radio license, as the objective is to get to be able to pass the skills test with a FE and that would be part of that?

Confused, and any help greatly appreciated,

Cheers, Jules

I wondered about that, after 13 years not flying, but didn't do anything about it. When my new PPL arrived it had FRTOL on it as well, as a result of my taking absolutely no action at all.

Just sayin'. Not saying that that's in accordance with the rules, or that it'll work for you, or that it hasn't all changed, but it worked for me.

Cheers for the reply GtW, that's same as I have been told - all the time I am under Instruction I don't need it, which will be up to and including the Skills Test so part of my License renewal me thinks. (Might have to take the written exam again but that's a no brainer)

All the best,

T

To get your SEP back you will need to do dual training and then pass a Proficiency Check. No solo requirement. As you have not flown for 9 years you will have to apply for a new EASA licence and the FRTOL will be reissued at the same time. You will need a sign off for English Language Proficiency which the Examiner can do if you are Level 6.

Cheers Whopity - good news all round!
