Pilot Medical Declaration

It's early days - the declaration form is only on version 6 (in as many weeks); I am waiting for v.19 (in plain English), which should be out by Christmas:-)

"Any history of a to e means" if you have ever had surgical or medical treatment. All I've had was tonsils surgery in, I think, 1946, and eye medication in the late 1950s.
My provisional driving licence application in 1959 only asked about reading a number plate at a distance. My age 73 licence renewal asked if I had ever been referred to an eye specialist. I ticked yes.
There followed a long hassle, as I could not remember the consultant's name, nor the medication, from over 50 years ago. Sending my current Optician's prescription had no effect.
Eventually I took the latest form to my GP, who scrawled "Irrelevant" in every box, stamping them with the Practice stamp, and adding a note that I had no problem. I got my driving licence back.

In the game of top trumps the wording in the ANO wins.

I believe that BEagle's interpretation was probably what was wanted, but unfortunately is not what the ANO states.

Having said that it pays to read all of the clauses not just one or two in isolation. You can have had these disqualifying conditions, but you must believe that they will not result in your being unable to manipulate the flight controls or to render you unfit to fulfil the functions which your licence entitles you.

So you could have accumulated all of these things and 'had them fixed or controlled' and then sign the declaration. Of course the CAA have then taken advantage of clause g) in the ANO by adding the medication for a psychiatric illness.

Plain English - obviously no, reasonable - probably yes.

The ANO is likely to be corrected shortly - a number of other corrections have been submitted to Parliament.

The current policy is as per the revised CAP1441.

Having submitted the self declaration is there any proof that this has been accepted or piece of paper to carry along with one’s licence?

Good job the CAA are so on the ball.....

Resasi,

You should receive an auto acknowledgment which has an attachment hidden away in it. This spells it all out for you.
(bottom of the page if Win10 with Mozilla e-mails)
Print this up and stuff it in your log book.

Thanks Mike.

No auto acknowledgement received which is why I was a bit puzzled.

It seems that my declaration may not have got there and should probably do it again. I did follow the instructions for sending by Mac.
