Anyone else doing Proj Propeller 16?
I know it's being organised via the 'other forum' but any other PPRuNers doing PP16? I'll be arriving in G-BBPP from Shoreham.

Yes. I'm bringing two veterans from Swansea on the day who I would like to thank publicly since, as always, they are waiving ALL landing fees :ok:
I am also bringing in the Belgian Plane Hunter archaeologists on Friday from Antwerp. It's well worth dropping by the small display they will have. I'd also like to thank Doncaster Sheffield airport who have also agreed to waive ALL landing and handling fees :ok: |
Yes, I'm scheduled to reposition from Old Warden to Goodwood in order to pick up a 94 year old Wellington pilot and his wife. This will be my third year on PP.

I thought it was at Leeds East Airport , AKA Church Fenton ? |
I'm flying the Planehunters from Belgium in to Doncaster tomorrow (Friday).
|
It is but anyone planning to fly to CF will need an alternate... Looking unlikely I'm afraid, I've never seen such a lousy set of forecasts in June.
|
@Jonzarno: out of a spotter's curiosity: what plane did you fly from what Belgian field?
|
Lots of us weathered off today. Offered to take my chap up another time but got the impression that all the uncertainty (weather, not venue) has put him off. One must reach the point of not wanting to bother.
|
I made it... and I have to say kudos to Doncaster who managed a steady stream of ILS to overshoot, and IFR zone clearances, without a hesitation. Fantastic. And of course to Graham and the team, and LEA (especially the rather frazzled refueller!)
My veteran was delighted, despite the late departure, short time there and cancellation of some of the entertainment (BBMF for example). Toughest day's flying I have ever put in though, over 5 hours and much of it on instruments. Justified the IR(R) though! |

Although many pilots were forced to cancel, those of us who made it had a great time. The two veterans I flew up from Swansea today didn't seem at all worried either by the weather or the numbers. I'd very much encourage anyone that hasn't done one of these events to sign up for next year. The airside organiser had 240 veterans signed up and was having one or two problems finding enough pilots in the right places. |
Thanks for info!

Just two points to offer to you incredibly generous private pilots who operate this very wonderful service to the rapidly shrinking number of us genuine veterans (I'm ruled out by extreme frailty, so count me out).
1. There are, I'm sorry to say, "Walter Mittys" among us greybeards. Watch out ! 2. If they are "Silver Surfers", point them in the direction of PPRuNe (if they do not know about it already). "Gaining a RAF Pilot's Brevet in WWII" (on "Military Aviation" Forum) will give them a warm welcome (Advt !) And renewed thanks on behalf of all my contemporaries for what you do. Fly safe ! Danny42C Anyone that does something like that should be ashamed of themselves, regardless of their age and anything else they may have done. The genuine veterans are truly remarkable people in whose company it is a privilege to be allowed to share an aircraft and a few hours. |
