I'm in total agreement with the general view of TCT in this thread but don't assume that the general public are always that easily fooled either. To my father, with no aviation background whatsoever, she will always be the "one who crashed into a helicopter" regardless of any 'extraordinary' flights that she may or may not have undertaken.

Tracey Mitty-Taylor has, I'm sure, spent quite a bit of time preparing for her talk at the Taranto Night Dinner.
It should be worth attending just to hear how our Pioneering British Aviatrix "emulated" the attack on the Italian Fleet
when she supposedly "buzzed" the Artemis Challenge fleet in Portsmouth or wherever.

I've just caught up the thread...I note someone was in touch with Portsmouth University and got the brush-off. May I suggest wrong approach.

Point the boss of the students union at the media articles. Point out that the university has been discredited and at the behest of big business and highly ranked members of society.

Then retreat to a safe distance while they go ape-pooh.

Was having a chat with my mate Dave at Corona California the other day, that's him on the quad towing his Stearman out (he's not on Pprune) , I asked him if he knew about the woman that's doing an around the world flight in a Stearman like his ? His response " Oh yeah that's the English lady that took along her instructor for the solo flight and crashed in Arizona "

Dave is the real deal, a grizzled and sunburned old boy who has flown just about every civil and military aircraft ever built. He's a hangar rat that permenantly has a cigar in his gob. His current project is flying a beat up Cessna 337 for Elan Musk with a $1m camera attached to the side that he winds down for surveying. His biggest fear is he forgets to wind it up for landing, now that would be an expensive mistake !!

Even if you had only 2/3 of the "Artemis" power, and no ASI (as I was taught to fly them for my first 60 hours with the US Army Air Corps).

Learned a lot ! A strong, simple aircraft, a delight to fly. Arguably the best iail dragging military primary trainer of all time - and yes, I've a few hours on the TM, as well.



Not to worry - just relax and enjoy the fun of watching the Great and Good riding for a fall !

Jan was as good a Captain as I ever flew with, a really good pilot and aircraft commander - I learned a lot from her.

She flew England to Australia SOLO in 1980 in a Cessna 150.

I seem to recall Janette went on to fly for the airlines later? Incidently she is pictured below with Oman's first female pilot back in 1980. A long trip in a C150 and truly alone like Amy.

I solved the mystery, she did fly solo, it was all a big mix up in communications.

The attached link and pic clearly shows TCT flying the Spirit of Artemis SOLO ( not just alone or sole pilot)

Granted the pic and link are from the X-plane flight sim line up where the Spirit has now joined the virtual fleet.

Does anyone know what is happening with Carol Vorderman and Amanda Harrison's proposed solo trips to Australia?

Given the picture of the C150 above it would be nice to see a newspaper sponsor one of them.

Of course the Tiger Moth would be ideal to replicate Amy Johnson's epic flight

You stupid man JS! Firstly they have to find aircraft that will deal with the heat that will be encountered. Then although these flights are intended to be solo from the outset, for a variety of reasons this will not be possible. For a start, setting up the outreach programmes and the problems of associated with visas, flying into international airports and controlled airspace means that large crews and chase planes will required. Apparently they will invite multi-thousand hour pilots on an occasional flight so they can also experience the thrill of the journey. Didn't you know, you awful man!

PS: I wish both Carol and Amanda the very best of luck. These will be solo events in spirit and reality. I look forward to watching their progress. With any luck they will undo some of the damage done by the Narcissus. But if Carol doesn't know her ETA's, expected fuel contents and average ground speed to three decimal places over each waypoint, without a calculator, I'll be very upset.

Seeing as how we're not allowed to poke fun at the Royal Navy's gullibility (and crass stupidity) any more, it's good to see
that we're 'moving forward'.

It's interesting though, that the LAA will entertain the motion being put at their AGM while the HCAP members seem to feel that
they're mere fare-paying passengers aboard a juggernaut - no matter where it's headed.

CV will be doing her flight in a twin (her own) and, last time I bothered to look, will be supported by her ex Red Arrows on-off boyfriend flying in another aircraft. And I hardly think she needs sponsorship.

No doubt it will attract a lot of publicity because of who she is and, being a woman of integrity, will be unlikely to make any false claims. But I'm afraid it doesn't float my boat.
