Airstrip Security Cam setup question

Setting up cameras to monitor the airstrip, its pretty good kit
Samsung 7084r IR night vision camera attached to a Samsung 472 NVR

The question I have is the camera has an "easy focus" function which basically runs an autofocus routine during the routine it can read a car license plate at the gate but when it finishes running it settles on a view that blurs the license plates, also when dark the luminous parts of the back of the car like the license plate and bumper reflectors create a lighted halo that obscures seeing the car clearly

Here's the cam link
SNO-7084R

Any of you camera experts out there have any ideas?

Make sure your cameras are secure they also like nicking good cameras!

piperboy84 16th Oct 2015 22:22

Good advice 707 , the bar stewards will steal anything nowadays. they nicked my ancient and knackered Frasier 3 ton tipping trailer a few months back, it was worth about 100 quid but that did not stop them trekking out to the strip with either a tractor or small Lorry with a pick up hitch. Seems like a lot of effort and risk for scrap but hey ho I guess that's how those buggers roll.

Some of these people are so stupid that they work harder at crime and get less return than they would at an honest job.

Got the system all installed a while back , I'd hired a young lad as a handy man to help me. I put him up in the forklift bucket and he installed one of the cameras 20ft high up on the roof aimed at the fuel tanks.

I caught my first thief on camera last night, a guy nicking my diesel. No prizes for guessing who 😀

The mind boggles !!

... or he thought the camera only worked in daylight!

Nope, I had him install 2 large motion detector equipped flood lights at either side of the camera, we spent hours testing the sensitivity and coverage area of both the lights and camera. Going to have to chalk this one up to plain old stupidity.

I think I must be be getting old and grouchy as I can help but feel that the younger generation seem to have an inherent sense of entitlement to do, act and take whatever they want and when they get caught feel a half assed apology completely redeems them from the financial loses to others of their actions. When I called this clown to ask him what the f&*k he thought he was doing he said in a rather off hand dismissive manner, " Oh yeah sorry about that, I'm really angry at myself for stealing your diesel" with no offer of replacing it. Maybe I'm behind the times but at that age I would have expected replacement and an ass kicking at a minimum.

I would have asked for the equivalent cost of fuel to be paid otherwise I'd call the police. As mentioned, these stupid youngsters should be punished so that they don't go through life feeling they can get away with things which to them might be insignificant.

Not so much bold as very, very stupid...

It seems pointless to go to the expense and effort of installing cameras if once they identify a thief, who you can name, who admits his wrong doing no further action is taken.
Either use the camera evidence and report him or save your money.

He had his chance to redeem himself and failed, who is the mug?

Me !

I'm reminded of a comment from lawyer I hired for one of my divorces when I complained to him i was offering more than was I obligated to as per the prenuptial but the ex still wasn't satisfied.

He said to me "No good deed goes unpunished in this world"

wrecker 11th Aug 2016 19:43

A friend recently had his yard raided and a significant value of agricultural machinery stolen. The interesting point is that he had high end video cameras recording the whole area, which were all jammed and no video was recorded. Another establishment which shares a access road with him has military level cameras with ANPR and facial recognition software running was also jammed.
It would seem that the bad guys are getting hold of some sophisticated kit.

Spot on.:ok: But sorry to say, PB, you're part of the problem in reinforcing that attitude/belief. Who do you expect to deal with him how you wou;d have expeted to be dealt with? I wonder how long he has been doing it and when/if he will do it again? Odds on from his attitude and lack of consequence he willdo it again.

This is not a simple case of petty theft. When a scrote steals from someone who has helped them it's a different psychology altogether.

fisbangwollop 14th Aug 2016 07:45

Not only nicking your fuel but wearing a Volvo jacket too!. Surely you could have given him a John Deere one! :-)

NV? I guessing you'remeaning the Samsung NVR with 4 top quality cameras running POE . The quality of the cameras and recording is top notch. Programming was a doddle, really happy with the system.

Edit to add: duh, I just realized you meant Night Vision, it's not so good so I mounted flood likes with motion dectectors, I considered getting one of those big stand alone IR units but they were pretty pricey

Above The Clouds 14th Aug 2016 21:21

Thats what I thought when you said night vision cameras, used similar stuff at night but the range of the night vision is limited. Just had some tw@ts steal a couple of off road bikes so now need to upgrade the cctv and was considering NV but in reality probably additional flood lighting with decent cameras should suffice.
