Airfield with Good restaurant on site or nearby?
Hi All,
Approval for me getting my ppl from the controller of finance rested on me being able to take her to places with somewhere good to eat. Now that time has come! Anyone know of airfields with a good (and she has high standards) restaurants onsite or nearby? Thanks P&R |
Here's some "food" for thought ;)

Day Trip
Le Touquet. There are often more G- reg on the ground there than F- reg. The airport restaurant thinks it's better than it really is but it's still pretty good. A walk in to town rewards with some excellent eateries. Lee-on-the-Solent. Walk to Osborne View, Hill Head. Only Pub Grub (though high end) but a wonderful view out over the Solent. Night Stop La Rochelle. Andre's. But book well ahead. Best seafood restaurant I've ever visited (including Café Turin, Place Garibaldi, Nice and some pretty good places on Pier 39, San Francisco) TOO |
Biggles at EBKT Kortrijk. Need to book in advance.
Some more suggestions at http://www.pprune.org/private-flying...staurants.html - but the trouble is a good place doesn't remain a good place for very long, usually. |
Coventry
The OAK just outside the gate. Plus DC6 diner, flying club or museum. Also good trucker food from a van in nearby trading estate. |
IndiaFourTwo,
Thanks for putting all the links together in this thread. I've been looking for something similar and knew there was more than the 2 or 3 I'd found on the search facility. TPP |
Compton Abbas has a great restaurant with good food at reasonable prices, and great views.
|
TPP,
You're welcome. I agree with 'surely not'. Compton Abbas is great. Sitting on a patio at 800' AMSL, with marvellous views AND watching aeroplanes. Good food too, particularly breakfast. |
compton abbas...sitting with fine food, but your gear has collapsed on your plane. try roserrow, polzeath, 4 mins to golf clubhouse, 9 mins to pub in rock and the runway is far superior to compton. oh and 19 mins walk down to the sea, via a footpath.

Glenforsa Hotel restaurant and Airfield Mull
|
Denham has a good one, Biggles but you have to check opening times.
North side has good café. |
Fairoaks is close (2 miles) to a village called Chobham which has several high class restaurants with Spanish, Indian and English cuisine, plus there are 2 pubs with recently refurbished restaurant facilities.
|
Hawarden - chocks away. Quite superb
|
Not sure if you count 2 miles as too far, but Jamie Oliver's Fifteen is a five minute taxi ride from Newquay Airport, and the location is stunning. Not cheap, obviously...
Also, The Beach Hut (run by Watergate Bay Hotel) is just below Fifteen, and is a bit more casual, but good food. |
Bit late but the Apron Cafe Gamston.
Check on line for opening times and menus |
I wish I could afford to fly AND eat well. Oh how the other half live.
Corned beef sandwich anyone?:( |
EEeeh Lad! Corned Beef!? When I were a lad we 'ad 'ard tack 'n engine oil :(
|
Le Touquet should fill the bill quite nicely I would have thought??

You UK'ers are SO ubiquitous about LFAT that mere mortals steer clear. Can you really not be a bit more diverse/adventurous/individual? Copied verbatim from another forum:
I don’t do L2K — all parking spots have British towels on them 24/7 |
Denham is a nice airfield it is my local one.
I think Leicester is nice and so is Shoreham. I personally love flying into Duxford, just feels good for me :) and you can see interesting planes on the ground usually. It is a little pricey for worth it. |
