First electric cross-channel flight

Privateer trumps Airbus in Electric Battle for Channel Crossing

Really don't think all electric is the way to go :( And this proves it a major achievement to cross the channel in an electric plane?
They did it zones ago at the birth of aviation in bits of canvas and wood.

The way forward surely has to be a Hybrid part electric part fuel with fuel for take off and climb and electric for cruise with fans to recharge during fuel operations and in the cruise.

it is not practical with just electric what are you going to do fill up in five minutes when the bloody thing runs out of charge and you have to fly home or have another leg to fly? and 20 odd miles ? a big achievement ?:ugh:

What are they talking about? Another plane is crossing the Pacific on electrical power - now there's an achievement! - though there have been some issues, as I understand. Still, crossing the English channel is not really impressive for today's aviation - it must have been done countless times without any power at all, in gliders.

Paul Macready's Solar Challenger, piloted by Stephen Ptacek, flew from near Paris to Manston, Kent in 1981, so Hughes Dewal is only 34 years too late.
