Comper Swift G-ECTF...almost ready....

.. just in case some of you guys and girls don't look in the history part!
Phil has almost after 15 year finished the Swift, she moved to Hinton today, just a W&B, and paperwork to sort!
I have been very lucky to have access to take photos and videos of the the last few years progress!

Hi TP. Some great Photos of a lovely aircraft.

Interesting registration. Is it a restoration, or a new build aircraft?

MJ:ok:

India Four Two 12th May 2015 23:16

TP,

Great video. I hope someone remembered to take the wings as well or it is going to be a very short first flight! ;)

Tupperware Pilot 13th May 2015 04:29

MJ, It's a new build......
Wings due this weekend.

Tupperware Pilot 23rd May 2015 16:48

For an engine of its era, it is not surprising the engine expects hand starting. I was ready to pity the chap doing the job, seeing there's reduction gear to make it hard work, but it started at the first try every time. Impressive!

Could one fit an electrical starter? Of course it would be a goddamn anachronism, but it would come in handy.

fastjet45 23rd May 2015 20:48

Wonderfull well done, cannot wait to see it fly.

Wash your mouth out...;) Swingers only at Hinton:p
Joking aside.... it starts very well. Just need to make sure that we follow the instructions, petrol soaked rag in the air inlet pull trough a few blades and swing! We have a few aircraft that need swinging at Hinton and we do it carefully:ok:

She moves...

Great news, TP. Lovely to see her moving under her own power.

What is the view like when taxying?

Tupperware Pilot 31st May 2015 06:25

What is the view like when taxying?
Does not seem any worse than any other tail dragger! (I'm told).

cambioso 31st May 2015 09:53

View out of the Comper.

Can't be much worse than this I guess.............?!
www.youtube.com/watch?v=RkY2bs9bxWIWeek commencing 8 June looks good for me for the First Flights.

Congratulations Phil on you extended hard work and achieving engine run tests.

It is a long time since I last saw it flying at Christchurch when I believe Ron Clear was the owner.

Good luck and successful taxying

New Comper

Wow what a great effort and I hope they have Pobjoy couplings on the mag drives and not DH Gypsy ones. The engine can take a hand crank (the swallow could have one) and the Niagra could be fitted with an electric unit. There is a lot of work just in the exhaust ring.

Interesting, i think you have it mixed up with another swift? This one is a new build! Taken Phil many many years! And built to the plans....

welkyboy 15th Jul 2015 17:08

Ron Clears Comper was G-ACTF

welkyboy 15th Jul 2015 18:24

Which is still in existence at Old Warden with the Shuttleworth collection

....we are very very close now. We have the tame test pilot and the owner in the same place at the same time. The engine issue that has been holding it up for the last few weeks has been solved!
Updated photos and a little tease video added to the set.. https://www.flickr.com/photos/tupper...57651213308891

Tupperware Pilot 2nd Oct 2015 13:34

more photos and video to follow this evening....
what a great sight and sound!

Tupperware Pilot 2nd Oct 2015 18:40

Well its done...

..first 2 flights have been done on a perfect day at Hinton. One small issue after the first flight was fixed and the second flight went so well we did some A2A.
Phil is very happy and the tame test pilot is happy to let him do the rest of the test program.
Here are the photos, video to follow next. Nigel also took loads and has a much better set of A2A.

What's A2A? Sounds like anti-alcoholism or some such nonsense.

Tupperware Pilot 3rd Oct 2015 05:19

The video...

....
The flight starts at 4:40 if you dont want to watch the swinging bits!
A2A video.. https://www.flickr.com/photos/tupper.../in/datetaken/ Phil was in the front of my cub watching his swift flying. Not sure that's going to happen again. As he will be sat in it from now on!

Yet ANother Swift Replica Project

Hullo - I'm a bit late to this conversation, but shall still hope for a comment or too (and advice is humbly solicited!).

I'm in the early stages of a Swift replica build in New Mexico, USA. It's on a 'time permits' basis, and I'm enjoying the metalwork enough not to want to rush, so I have no idea when it will be finished.

I do intend to use a Gipsy Major as the density altitude here might be rather a stretch for a Pobjoy.

My wife blames Alex Henshaw, as I became enamoured of this complicated little beast after reading"Flight Of The Mew Gull".

Such, as Ned Kelly said, is life.
