Is it still open?

Number unobtainable and drawing a blank on contacting the site even though there is a museum there!

With 1500m of concrete it seems rude not to!

70YO pal of mine with lapsed PPL wants to solo again! But doesn't want to go the full revalidation route.

Instructor and CAA unclear on whether he requires full medical (£150) or just a doctors note (£30)?

Hi I used to fly a Baron 55 and then a Crusader 303 twin into Davidstow
It is a disused airfield with broken up and stoney runways.

We found one side of one runway which was in good condition giving 500 meters which was acceptable and plenty of none acceptable run off areas but good if you got it wrong in an emergency.

There was a microlight club based there in a shed and not much more.

watch out for low cloud which often meant a diversion into Exeter and check the runways for animals as there can often be livestock wandering around as well as Cornish Carrot crunchers moaning about aircraft.

This was a few years ago so do not know the situation there now but I used to fly a company in there every week for the best part of a year

If all your pal wants to do is fly solo under the supervision of an instructor, all he needs is a Medical Declaration countersigned by his GP.

I've not been there for years - but when I went there last (by road!) the runway was almost like gravel, there were sheep walking around on it, the locals were also using it to teach their kids to drive.

Unless it's had a serious cleanup since, no way would I land my own aeroplane there.

I used to fly a company in there who were building a large factory nearby must have been 15 years back.
Yes you did have to do a very low pass and it used to take a lot of Creative flying :E but I took twins in there.
Not a place for the faint of heart and often mist a low cloud to chuck into the pot.
I don't suppose it has changed much in those 15plus years.
No idea if the microlight club are still there?
but visit it first and walk the runways otherwise you will get stoned props and probably collect some livestock in the process

I used to drive my first car there as a teenager and flew in a Thruster from the beaten up runway when they first came to the UK in the very early 80's .... I moved away after school and have never been back :sad:
