Flying the NY Skyline
I will be in Manhattan on 11 & 12 July and would like to rent an aircraft (with an instructor knowledgeable of the area) to fly a scenic tour around NY.
Has anybody ever done this, or have tips for this and where to go? |
Call the rental facility where you want to rent an aircraft and you will certainly be assisted in getting an instructor that is Knowledgeable of the NY area.

There are basically two options:
1. Below 1300ft in the special flight rules area without a clearance, but sticking to common traffic procedures. 2. Or with a clearance along the Skyline Route up to 2000ft with altitudes assigned by ATC. More info here: http://www.faasafety.gov/files/gslac.../kneeboard.pdf And you'll need the TAC as well. |

I guess too late for Ellemeet, but I got a great welcome and the services of an instructor/safety-pilot from these people last week :
Fischer Aviation | NY/NJ Area Flight School at Essex County Airport I flew with Felix. My PPL documents were required, as was a deposit up front. And yes, it was breathtaking. The sort of experience that reminds one why we bother putting up with the hassles of aviation. Andy |
