Egnatia aviation, Greece

Hi folks, apologies if it seems like i'm posting a lot of similar threads, i didn't want to put this in the other thread as it was for France/Spain.

I contacted Egnatia aviation in Greece about doing my PPL next Summer. It would be flight training only though since i intend to have ground exams passed before i go. Ideally i'd only have about a month to do my ppl and other schools, including FIS in Jerez, Spain have said that timeframe is good.

The issue is that Egnatia have come back and said that the normal PPL timeframe is 10 weeks!?

Have they made a mistake?

Does anyone have any more info or experiences from there?

Thanks!

The Greeks do nothing quickly, nice people but for fast flight training you need to look elsewhere.

Ah that's a shame. They look like a really good professional outfit and i've heard nothing bad about them.

Maybe FIS in Jerez will be the one!

Why not try Cyprus?

I used to instruct there and got many people through PPL and night qualifications in under a month. PM me if you want any recommendations for schools.

I thought there were only two schools in Cyprus plus the RAF flying club? I have flown with Griffon at Larnaca and the other lot at Pathos whose name evades me plus with the Akrotiri.

It's been a couple of years now but it was all restricted to specific training areas and in the summer it's like flying in soup. The cross country options were not exactly titivating. Has that changed now?

Griffon is actually Pafos based, although they used to have a small presence at Larnaka. Pafos is the better of the two civilian airports to operate from, as it is quieter and the scenery is better that side of the island.

I cannot think of a day's flying lost ever due to weather. Sometimes it can be slightly hazy, but usually its severe clear.

AOPA has fought (and won) to open new training areas and VFR routes and expanded the ones that were already there so it's opened up. Longer cross country flights can include Beirut, Rhodes, Crete, Egypt etc.
