IFR & Night - Permit Aircraft

Any views on what the above may do to the value of permit machines?

Keen to one day own one, however I fear that whilst relaxing the rules may be a good thing to many, the value of the machines may increase (not so good for potential buyers).

Or am I totally and utterly missing something?

At the mo, they are permit types exactly (sort of) because they don't require all the IMC/Night gizmos. The gizmos (that's lights for night!) will be more trouble and cost than the aeroplane in lots of cases.

Spoke to a mate who's fitting a set of electronics to an old Permit type.

He's been caught out in the past by cr*p weather so wants to make it easier. Can't fault his logic, but he doesn't intend to do any training. He's just going to suck it and see.....

The LAA Newsletter today says they are testing Bulldog, Europa, and 2 RV models.
I enquired in May about Night in our Jodel DR1050. I've previous night time in the type, which was previously C of A. We fitted lights to that aircraft, and would do the same to our present one - but use LED. Our permit renewal will be going to the LAA at the end of June, so we'll ask again then.

Interesting that Permit types may be approved for new technology, but CofA equivalents might be restricted to what they have or face large mod fees

Anything that raises the utility value of an aircraft is bound to raise its value too.

I suspect that this will also substantially reduce the value of older CofA types at the same time, as there won't be any very good reason to own something like a C150 or PA28-140 any more, as there will be both better more reliable aeroplanes (if only the C152 and PA28-161) for flying school use, and better cheaper to run aeroplanes for private use.
