PPL Training In The North East, England

Hey everyone - it's great to be here. This past weekend I fulfilled a long held ambition of having a trial flying lesson which I LOVED, and I now have the bug!

I did the lesson in Manchester (while I was visiting family) but I live in the North East and so I'm obviously wanting to train closer to home.

I've already done some research but was hoping someone might be able to recommend the best place to do the PPL from their personal experiences. If you were able to recommend a specific instructor that would be brilliant too.

Thank you in advance for any help that you can give. :)

If you plan to fly for fun, this might be a cheaper option. The Eurostar is a delight to fly.

Pop into Northumbria Flying School at the Airport, speak to Neil, great bloke with years of experience, he will get you on your way i'm sure.

There are schools/clubs at Carlisle and one decent one at Teesside. I would suggest visiting them all before spending any money!

Carlisle clubs

There's two fixed wing schools at Carlisle, one of which I go too. One of the benefits of learning to fly at Carlisle I've found is the amount of controlled airspace, meaning there isn't any. This is good as I've been able to get up into the air quickly and have a decent lesson rather having to comply with ATC and being held up by the heavies. But on the flip side I have noticed my radio work not being as sharp as what it should be as there's basically no one here to talk to apart from Carlisle Tower, London and Scottish info.

But I would have to agree with Golfdriver and try a few clubs/aircraft/instructors before you settle with a particular school. You'll enjoy it a lot more if you get on well with your instructor!
