Taylor Titch

Hi guys,
I have acquired the remnants of G-BABE from the last owner. It's a Titch built in 1973. I have all the airframe documentation and logbooks etc and intend to rebuild it. The fuselage I'm going to cut down to a cockpit section and turn it into a flight sim for my son.
If anyone has any info on my aircraft, or owns one, I'd love to talk to you. If anyone has any parts I'd be interested. I'd also be interested in timed out parts for my lads cockpit build. I think it's a good way to encourage him.
I'll no doubt think of more. Thanks, Ed

Build the sim and burn the rest.

Yes it crashed at Netherthorpe. The sim is a definate project, but I feel its a huge shame for this aircraft to disappear. Its a lovely little aircraft with a great Reg, and 41 years of history. My son is aircraft mad, and I can see him flying. As a steady project it would cost very little until we reach engine and avionics purchase and will be great for him to be involved with rather than staring at a playstation. Cheers, Ed

I swung the prop on G-BABE many times back in the 80s and 90d for the then owner when it was based at Sibson. The owner still flies out of Sibson as far as I know.

BABE did a fine job of patrolling the skies around Sibbo fending off attackers....

PS IIRC, BABE was used after John Taylor (the designer) was killed in a Titch to see what the spin characteristics were like. It was decided not to spin a Titch...

Pal of mine owns a Titch. Lovely little thing.

Killed one of my mates. Burn it.

"thing". where is your pals based at? I'd love to have a look at it.

Interesting cross section of thoughts/advice.

-6, perhaps you would care to enlighten us with further details of why you are so vehement in your condemnation of the `Titch`..?

Am I missing something? Just saw G-BABE on the Hercules Propellers Facebook page recently had a new prop fitted, also note in G-INFO it has a valid permit and is airworthy?!?!

Sorry to hear about your mate but people die in all sorts of aeroplanes, cars, boats or whatever. We don't say burn all Ford escorts if someone dies in one, so your post is very odd? As far as I'm aware the Taylor Titch doesn't have a particularly bad record so I doubt "it" killed your mate? I used to know a chap who flew all around Europe in one breaking records left, right and centre. He loved it, but died flying it ... I doubt he'd have said it killed him.

SS, Thanks for reminding me of Vic, a true gent who loved aviation and his Titch aka the bembridge lawnmower.

Thanks for the Facebook link, I hadn't seen that. Yes that's it. It didn't last long after the rebuild unfortunately

Vic was quite an inspiration and proof you can still break or make records in very modest aircraft. :D

Can I have some more info on Vic please, or pointers on where to find some. Thanks, Ed

ps yes the pilot was ok, he limped away, and has bought a lovely Jodel, also based at Netherthorpe.

There must be others on here who knew him a lot better than I? I knew him through an uncle in my early flying days in and around Shoreham in the late 80's early 90's. He was a retired ship's Captain and owned a lovely little Titch that he flew around Europe setting "between city" speed records. He was quite a character but sadly crashed into a mountain in the mid 90's during another record attempt as I recall - though I could be wrong as it's a long time ago and I have a rubbish memory.
